Discover the Best Fall Foliage Around Danville

CENTURY 21 Mertz & Associates February 28, 2026

When the leaves of Pennsylvania's thriving forests begin to change color, you know fall is on its way. In just a few weeks, almost all of the trees around Danville will have their festive seasonal colors on display.

It's many of our real estate agents' favorite times of the year, and they always make sure to take a day trip out to nearby nature preserves to appreciate the bright colors before they fade. Here are some of the scenic fall spots our team members find themselves coming back to year after year.

  • Milton State Park - Route 642, Milton, PA 17847

Milton State Park is a secluded 82-acre island that can be accessed via Route 642. It features 3.5 miles of mostly flat trails, many of which pass through the forested areas on the island's southern end. It's a great spot to enjoy some easy hiking and see the colorful birch, aspen, and sugar maple trees this fall. If you're planning to stay a while, the space also has lots of fishing areas and boat launches where you can enjoy the peaceful fall scenery and the steady flow of the river at the same time.
  • Luciana Park - Susquehanna, PA 18847

Luciana Park is a small green space on the fringes of Lanesboro, a small town about two hours north of Danville. The park itself is lush and well-kept with many leafy trees sporting their fall colors, but that's not what most people come to see. The nearby Starrucca Viaduct is one of the oldest and largest stone railway bridges still in use in Pennsylvania, and it makes an incredible addition to fall-themed photographs. Visit the park around mid-October to get some great shots with plenty of trees in full fall splendor.
  • Lehigh Gorge State Park - S Lehigh Gorge Drive, Weatherly, PA 18255

Drive about an hour east of Danville and you'll reach Lehigh Gorge State Park, a nature preserve full of rugged rock features and dense hardwood forests. While the park's red oaks, beech trees, and sugar maples begin to change color in late September, you'll see the biggest difference around mid-October. Trees at higher elevations often change color before trees closer to the ground, so consider hiking up to higher areas inside the park if you visit earlier in the month.
  • Shikellamy State Park - 401 Bridge Avenue, Sunbury, PA 17801

Known for its bustling marina and gorgeous views, Shikellamy State Park offers visitors the chance to enjoy spectacular fall vistas without having to hike too far. Follow the 1.1-mile Overlook Trail loop to reach the edge of a cliff looking out over Augusta Lake and the surrounding forest. Mid-October is the best time to visit this Sunbury park, but don't fret if you only have time to visit early in the season. You'll see plenty of bright fall leaves starting in late September.
Danville and the surrounding area are full of beautiful nature scenes that only get more striking with every passing season. Contact us today to start searching for a local home close to all of these majestic forests and many other natural wonders.
