How to Celebrate Family Fun Month Around Danville, PA

CENTURY 21 Mertz & Associates August 16, 2020

Family Fun Month is celebrated each August, so what better way to enjoy summer's last month than with some activities that are sure to please everyone in the family? Our real estate agents know the area well and recommend the following five ways to celebrate Family Fun Month around Danville:

1. Pitch a tent at Indian Head Campground

340 Reading St., Bloomsburg PA 17815

Pitch a tent at Indian Head, a family-style campground on the banks of the Susquehanna River and Fishing Creek and situated near Bloomsburg homes for sale. The land was named for a nearby natural rock formation and was once home to Native Americans, who lived there over a period of many centuries, so it's rich in history. In addition to camping, you can also bring a boat or kayak and head out on the water.

2. Go out for ice cream at Hunter's Dairy Freez - 1736 Montour Blvd. #9117, Danville PA

Cool off with some ice cream at Hunter's Dairy Freez, a family-owned business that has scooped up treats for 40 years near Danville homes for sale. Sit outside at the pavilion or playground and try a Flavorburst like butterscotch or blueberry, or choose a Hershey's Hand Dipped flavor like salted caramel truffle or oatmeal cookie craving. Dole whips are also served.

3. Take a bike ride at Hopewell Park/Danville Borough Farm Trails - Montour Blvd., Danville PA

Whether your family is made up of experienced mountain bikers or one or more of you is just getting started, head to the Hopewell Park/Danville Borough Farm trail network. It consists of more than 11 miles of trails and is designed by mountain bikers. You'll enjoy fun terrain and as well as a jumps area and pump track – a loop that you can ride without pedaling but instead by using up and down movements.

4. Cast a fishing line at Lake Chillisquaque - Montour County, PA, 11 miles north of Danville

Cast a fishing line at Lake Chillisquaque, a 165-mile reservoir named for the Native American term for "song of the wild goose." The lake contains fish such as the largemouth bass, channel and bullhead catfish, Northern pike, yellow perch, and black crappie. Artificial baits like jigs and plastic worms are often used by anglers at the lake, and minnows, nightcrawlers, and crawdads are effective live bait options. And don't forget – family members who are 16 and older will need a Pennsylvania fishing license that you can pay for and print out online.

5. Order pizza for backyard movie night by calling Whadda Pizza - 125 Northumberland St., Danville PA

Treat the family to an outdoor movie night, complete with pizza takeout or delivery. You'll need an outdoor projector and surface like a canvas drop cloth that you can suspend. Add a few pizzas from Whadda Pizza, and you're all set to enjoy the evening. Order some traditionally topped pies for kids who like the tried-and-true, or try some slightly more gourmet options like Hawaiian or steak pizza. You'll want to try at least one sweet sauce option, which is a particular favorite among customers.
